“PIANO+” may be characterized as ‘Festival within a Festival’. The concert’s title points to the core theme: the merging of piano with electronic sounds. The concert series curated by pianist Catherine Vickers entitled “PIANO+” presents central approaches of contemporary piano literature, which augment the framework of the instruments medially, theatrically or electro-acoustically. Here, the piano, symbolic epitome of bourgeois music culture becomes instrument of musical development. “PIANO+” consequently sounds out the possible interfaces to other artistic areas, such as performance, electronics or video.
