An Audio-visual Interactive Installation on "Climate – Culture – Change"
Akademie der Künste Berlin, Plenary Hall and Visitor's Bridge inside the passage, 11 a.m., admission free
→ Information auf Deutsch
"Climate Walk" is an experimental project, the object of which is to critically analyze ecological thought and action. As an audio-visual installation on the visitor‘s bridge at the Akademie der Künste Berlin "Climate Walk" will begin concurrently with the World Climate Conference COP 17 in South Africa. The installation makes accessible the interdisciplinary scholarly and scientific archive of key partners, such as the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and the Canary-Project, New York. Participants will be invited to formulate and contribute their own questions and commentaries.
Global crises, such as climate change and consequent social transformation in the spirit of a responsible culture constitute the background of "Climate Walk". It follows in the tradition of the "Walks Against Global Warming" which took place in Australia and Sweden, and points to a contemporary paradigm change ("performative turn").
In "spoken installations", "Climate Walk" aims to clearly delineate several of the controversies and uncertainties underpinning the thematic area. In an exemplary way, the Climate Walk thus offers a semi-public space which, in the course of a year, evolves into a place or a meeting point of "a continuous second enlightenment" (Peter Weibel).
For the opening on Sunday, 4 December, 2011 will be present:
-Klaus Staeck, President of Akademie der Künste
-Christiane Riedel, General Manager of ZKM | Karlsruhe
-Robert Palmer, Director of Culture and Cultural and Natural Heritage
at the Council of Europe, Strasbourg
