The Karlsruhe musicologist Rudolf Frisius closely monitored and offered scholarly consultation on the developmental process of the composition “Strahlen” (“Rays”) by Karlheinz Stockhausen, performed for the first time at the ZKM, in 2009. In the work of Stockhausen, the composition, comprising single recorded vibraphone tones faithfully realized by percussionist László Hudascek, today represents a masterwork of precision and an impressive spatial panoramic acoustic world. By way acoustic examples, Rudolf Frisius provides insights into the manner of compositional construction and its electronic realization, and shows the multiple inner references to sound structures of other of Stockhausen’s compositions and their further development.
Like “Strahlen” (“Rays”) Frisius will also dedicate himself to the composition “Cosmic Pulses”, which was realized in SWR’s Experimental Studio.
