:::::: ZKM NEWS :::

We are mourning the passing of Wonil Rhee (1960-2011) :: The ZKM is sad to announce the sudden and unexpected death of its former curator Wonil Rhee (* November 2, 1960 in Seoul), who died on January 11th, aged 50.
Wonil Rhee was an outstanding person, a passionate lover oft art, a global traveler and a brilliant curator. With "Thermocline oft Art. New Asian Waves" at the ZKM Museum of Contemporary Art (2007) he delivered one of the best exhibitions of the ZKM that opened a window to mostly unknown innovative and poetic Asian art. The surprise and success of the exhibition was even so great that the Museum of Modern Art in New York invited Wonil Rhee to curate as sequel. I was happy to work with Wonil Rhee as co-curator for the 3rd Biennial of Seville (2008). Here, too he offered a very fresh unconventional look at Asian art.
His sudden death is a real loss for the art world and of a dear friend of the ZKM. (Peter Weibel, ZKM Chairman and CEO)
