The collection of Siegfried Weishaupt in Ulm focuses on geometric, concrete, and constructive art. Fascinated by the rationality of the formal structure in works by artists such as Josef Albers and Max Bill, who were active at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm [Ulm School of Design] during the 1950s, at first Weishaupt collected works of abstract art.
Siegfried Weishaupt Collection
The Weishaupt Collection also contains many classic works of international Color Field painting of the 1960s: works by Ad Reinhardt, Mark Rothko, Frank Stella, Morris Louis, and Kenneth Noland complement the large complex of Op art and ZERO artworks by François Morellet, Piero Manzoni, Lucio Fontana, Enrico Castellani, Otto Piene, Heinz Mack, and Günther Uecker.
A second collection focus was established with a work by Robert Rauschenberg: figurative expressive art is represented in the Weishaupt Collection by numerous top-quality works by North American Pop artists, such as Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, and Tom Wesselmann, as well as by contemporary works by Robert Longo and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Parts of the Weishaupt Collection have been exhibited in changing thematic or monographic exhibitions at the especially new built Kunsthalle Weishaupt in Ulm since 2007.
