Collectors' Choice I
An exhibition at
ZKM | Museum of Contemporary Art
→ Information auf deutsch
Collectors' Choice I emerged in the context of the exhibition "Vertrautes Terrain: Contemporary Art in & about Germany," presented last year at the ZKM | Museum of Contemporary Art. The works exhibited in Collectors' Choice I are from the collections Boros, Grässlin, and Landesbank Baden-Württemberg and were selected in close collaboration with these collections. The focus of the selection is on both art that arose in Germany as well as that which is dedicated to specific past and present German themes and events. Extending historically back to the early 1980s, Collectors' Choice I thus offers insight not only into individual forms of collection history and politics, but also German art history. In this way, the exhibition enables a renewed encounter with established positions, such as the internationally renowned Becher Schule or the impetuous, wildly provocative works by artists such as Werner Büttner, Georg Herold, and Martin Kippenberger. Presented are works by a total of forty artists, including also more recent positions, for example, from Jonathan Meese, Daniel Richter, and Thomas Zipp in addition to the "classics" from the past thirty years.
In the framework of the ten-year anniversary of the Museum of Contemporary Art, the entire house will present itself successively over the course of the year as exclusively a collector's museum. Collectors' Choice I is the first part of an exhibition which will show the entire collection on three floors.
Curated by Gregor Jansen together with Christian Boros, Lutz Casper, Bärbel, Karola and Thomas Grässlin.
