Druckwerk Orange

In spring 2008 students of the „Regionale Schule Rülzheim“ created an audio installation dealing with bullying and verbal violence, instructed by radio play expert Steffen Griesinger (medien+bildung.com) and their music teacher Michael Kröninger.
The Institute for Music and Acoustics of the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe helped to realise the project, so that 100 enthusiastic visitors were able to experience the premiere of „Druckwerk Orange“ on 6th of June 2008 in the Klangdom of the ZKM_Kubus.

In November 2008 the production received two significant media awards: On the one hand it gained a „besondere Anerkennung“ („special appreciation“) at the Dieter-Baacke-Preis 2008 in Rostock. The other award is the „Sonderpreis Medienkunst“ („special award for media art“) at the „Deutscher Multimediapreis mb 21“ („German award for multimedia“), which is endowed with 1000,- € and founded by CYNETart and the „Amt für Kultur und Denkmalschutz“ („department for culture and preservation order“) of Saxony's capital Dresden.

The intention of „Druckwerk Orange“ was to present everyday verbal violence in its most primal form – the acoustic one. Thanks to the special technology of the Klangdom it was possible to illustrate this kind of violence in an insistent way. Therefor not only vociferous abuses were embedded, but it was focused on the effect of the interaction of various, partially very subtle hurts. The installation transferred the listener to the part of the victim and enabled reflecting one's own role behaviour.

Here you can listen to the installation, good headphones recommended:
