:::::: ZKM EVENTS :::

Film premiere and opening: "The Cabinet of Ferdinand von Blumenfeld" :: Until into the 1970s, in many bistros in Paris, one wall was covered with landscape photos. These large-format pictures were the first to integrate photography into a profane interior accessible to the public. Ferdinand von Blumenfeld, who rumors cite as the bistro photograph, took pictures of these landscapes with his own specially developed rearview mirror camera. This special method allowed him to capture in the same shot, the picture in front and the space behind the camera ⁄⁄ more

Multimedia dance performance at the ZKM_Media Theater :: The show "HOMO LUDENS" at ZKM is the public premiere of internationally renowned dancer and choreographer Richard Siegal's latest production. In this work, Siegal, previously a dancer with the Forsythe Company, focuses on an interdisciplinary exploration of new forms of contemporary dance. In this context, in 2002 he founded The Bakery, a gathering of artists from various disciplines, from music to media art. The production "HOMO LUDENS," created in collaboration with ZKM, offers an exceptionally clear presentation of this innovative approach ⁄⁄ more

:::::: ZKM EXHIBITIONS :::

Medium Religion :: Today's religious movements operate predominantly with images that can be spread across the entire world in a flash by means of contemporary mass media. The electronic picture media video and television have become the chosen media for religious propaganda as they are capable of being produced and distributed especially fast. The exhibition Medium Religion aims at demonstrating this medial aspect of religion using current examples of religious video propaganda and the work of contemporary artists. Shown will be, among other things, suicide confessions from religiously inspired terrorists, religious propaganda TV series, and documentaries on new religious sects and faith communities. Participating artists [amongst others]: Adel Abdessemed, Oreet Ashery, Maja Bajevic, Dias & Riedweg, Barbad Golshiri, Vitali Komar, Beryl Korot and Steve Reich, Korpys/Löffler, Sang-Kyoon Noh, Nira Pereg, robotlab, Anri Sala, Michael Schuster, Wael Shawky - The exhibition runs until April 19th, 2009 ⁄⁄ www.zkm.de/mediumreligion

The Discreet Charm of Technology. Arts in Spain :: Exploring the ambiguous relationship between art and technology, this exhibition suggests the existence of another form and another content inherent in the practice of media art. Technology as an instrument gives way to technique as a procedure that artists use to create visual poetics, sensory and formal explorations, and conceptual developments. The discreet charm of media art lies precisely in this potential to blaze new trails. Participating artists [among others]: Antoni Abad, Bressemer & Alia, Daniel Canogar, Equipo 57, Joan Fontcuberta, Jodi, Enrique Marty, Victor Nubla, Wolf Vostell - The exhibition runs until February 15th, 2009 ⁄⁄ more
