New Asian Imaginations :: Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) is organising an international symposium entitled New Asian Imaginations, to be held 1-2 August 2008 in Singapore. The symposium is organised with a focus on the dynamic artistic developments taking place particularly in Southeast Asia, within the larger context of Asia. It will provide a platform for international scholars to exchange their views and encourage discourse on how Southeast Asian arts contribute to the confidence in the new imaginings through voice, thought and content. The symposium will also seek to stimulate further debates on the future of these explorations. Speakers [amongst others]: Carol Martin, Eugene Tan, William Sun Huizhu, Wonil Rhee. Keynote Speaker: Professor Michael Sullivan [Stanford University]. The Early-bird registration ends on May 31st, 2008 → http://newasianimaginations.nafa.edu.sg

Vertrautes Terrain – Contemporary Art in/about Germany :: The project Vertrautes Terrain – Contemporary Art in / about Germany conceives itself, namely, as a resonance space within which the differentiated examination of works by international artists, who reflect on Germany in distinctly different ways as a historical-, art-, and social sphere can be carried out. The focus placed on the German context refers to an "imaginary cartography", which seeks to trace those concerns dealing with the form and content, the symptoms and the virulent features in art as set against the backdrop of their socio-political presence ⁄⁄ www.vertrautes-terrain.de

:::::: ZKM CURRENT :::

bit international. [Nove] tendencije: Computer and Visual Research, Zagreb 1961-1973 :: In the exhibition bit international, the ZKM turns its attention to one of the most important artistic movements of the 1960s, which was of enormous influence in its day, but has sunk into near oblivion today: New Tendencies. Beginning with an exhibition of concrete and constructive art in Zagreb in 1961, New Tendencies quickly developed to a dynamic movement triggering an international Op-Art boom. Art became »visual research« - The exhibition runs until February 22nd, 2009 ⁄⁄ www.zkm.de/bit

YOU_ser: The Century of the Consumer :: This exhibition invites the visitor to become an integral part of the art works. For the works shown here constitute themselves only in the act of reception by the viewer and include in their conception his active participation in the process of creation. Artists [among others]: Giselle Beiguelman, Michal Bielicky, Norman Klein/ Andreas Kratky, Armin Linke, Catalina Ossa/ Enrique Rivera, PIPS:lab, Jill Scott, Susigames, The Orbitants, The SLatelliterates - The exhibition runs until January 6th, 2009 ⁄⁄ www.zkm.de/you

MAGNET. Thorbjørn Lausten's Visual Systems :: Visual arts have always endeavored to make the invisible visible. The Danish light and media artist Thorbjørn Lausten has been devoted for several years to the visualization of scientific data in the context of art, science, and media. Lausten's illustrations of digital readings become concrete "color films," which will be presented interactively and simultaneously at three exhibition sites (ZKM, Museet for Samtidskunst, Roskilde, and Nordjyllands Kunstmuseum, Aalborg) and additionally, can be followed online via www.meteomag.dk - The exhibition runs until July 6th, 2008 ⁄⁄ more

Rome - Open Painting. The Material Picture in Italy During the 1950s and 1960s :: n Italy, during the 1950s, an artistic dissolution and destruction of panel painting was initiated. One began separating panel from painting, a development which was to have far-reaching consequences for art history. A number of artists – ranging from Alberto Burri to Lucio Fontana – abandoned the path of abstraction. They distanced themselves from general tendencies, which predominated in the Abstract Expressionism of the New York scene during the 1950s. One not only rejected the portrayal of the object world but also the materials of painting, namely, of oil and canvas - The exhibition runs until August 24th, 2008 ⁄⁄ more

High Times, Hard Times: New York Painting 1967-1975 :: In the late 1960s the New York art world was, famously, an exciting place to be. New mediums such as performance and video art were developing, and sculpture was quickly expanding in many different directions. Recapturing the liveliness and urgency of this important moment, High Times, Hard Times: New York Painting 1967-1975 delves into the field of experimental abstract painting at a time when it was beginning to be pressed to its limits - The exhibition runs until June 1st, 2008 ⁄⁄ more

OUR LITERAL SPEED. DER PERFORMATIVE DISKURS :: »OUR LITERAL SPEED« manifests the imperatives that materialize the theoretical and the pedagogical. No longer can we interpret forms of academic and artistic professionalism as neutral, abstract backgrounds to the aesthetic and performative. These activities have produced their own distinctive surfaces and materials: the »aesthetic« has become discursive and »discourse« has become aesthetic - The exhibition runs until May 25th, 2008 ⁄⁄ more

World of Games: reloaded :: This Exhibition is an extension of the previous presentation of video and computer game 'classics' of recent years, which from now on is to be updated at regular intervals - Permanent Exhibition ⁄⁄ more

rosalie: Helios :: The artist and set designer rosalie presents a hanging light garden in a new context at the ZKM_Subraum. Sounds from Ludger Brümmer and Chandrasekhar Ramakrishnan expand the visuals on an acoustic level ⁄⁄ more
