IdeenPark 2008: »Globorama«
Messe Stuttgart, Stuttgart [D], daily 10am-18pm Uhr
→ Information auf Deutsch
With three of its partners from the research association »Interactive Visualization for Gigapixel Displays«, the ZKM | Institute for Visual Media presents its PanoramaScreen at the »IdeenPark 2008«.
The presentation entitled »Exploration of Living Spaces« addresses the different ways we experience the world around us. On the PanaromaScreen, two project will be presented in turns: the interactive research project »Globorama« by the ZKM | Institute for Visual Media and the University of Konstanz and the 360°-film »The World in Our Heads« by the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics, Tuebingen.
Using innovative representational forms of satellite images, »Globorama« by Bernd Lintermann, Joachim Böttger and Torsten Belschner investigates new navigable information space: Surrounded by 360°-satellite images of the earth, visitors can travel the entire globe with a laser pointer and at selected points submerge in panoramic photos of the respective location.
The research association »Interactive Visualization for Gigapixel Displays« focuses on the research and development of methods and applications for data visualization on high-resolution, large-format displays. Supported by the Information Technology Funding Program of the federal state of Baden-Wuerttemberg [BW-FIT], eight working groups research innovative forms of representation based on the characteristics of human perception, suitable visualization methods and intuitive modes of interaction.
The biannual »Park of Ideas« initiated by the Thyssen-Krupp company in 2004 aims at presenting latest technological research and science as an appealing new world of experience and learning for young people, families and pupils. It provides a hands-on approach to technology and the possibility to enter into a dialogue with the developers behind it.
The event is jointly realized by Thyssen-Krupp with 120 partners from the domains of science, education, economy, and media and is supported by the federal state of Baden-Wuerttemberg.
