ZKM new Exhibition: »MindFrames. Media Study at Buffalo 1973-1990« :: In the 1970s and 1980s, the Department of Media Study at the State University of New York at Buffalo became one of the places of teaching and mediating, in the area of Media Art, developing into what was perhaps to the most influential school for media in the twentieth century. Teaching there under the leadership of the founder Gerald O'Grady were the (meanwhile canonized) structuralist, avant-garde filmmakers Hollis Frampton, Tony Conrad, and Paul Sharits, documentary filmmaker James Blue, video artists Steina and Woody Vasulka, and Peter Weibel. The exhibition will offer the first comprehensive insight into this groundbreaking art of the 1970s and 1980s, which was so decisive for Media Art's further development and whose style remains influential today ⁄⁄ www.zkm.de/mindframes_e/

:::::: ZKM EXHIBITIONS

Paul Virilio and the Arts :: Special about Virilio's aesthetic approach is his understanding of politics as a unique aesthetic position. The question of power in art thus becomes redundant, since artistic expression already, the employed technical means as well as the correlating stylistic possibilities are a sign of a political position. The exhibition will grasp Virilio's philosophy in numerous pictures and videos - The exhibition runs until January 7th, 2007 ⁄⁄ more
Lisa Schmitz. InVerse Library :: Over the past several years, Lisa Schmitz has developed a unique method for photographing libraries. She turns all of the books around so that only the white paper is visible rather than the book spine. She covers all of the printed papers with blank paper. She erases, as it were, the writing, the essence of the books, and thereby negates the archive, the entity of the library - The exhibition runs until February 4th, 2007 ⁄⁄ more
FASTER! BIGGER! BETTER! Signet works of the collections :: Sylvie Fleury's neon writing supplies the title for the presentation of our museum's new collections.
