Three composers and a video artist entered into an intense engagement with Mozart and created an evening-long multi-media work. The start material was formed by the aria »A cenaiteco« from Mozart’s »Don Giovanni«. The composers selected structures, chords, rhythms and formal elements from the aria and used them to create a new composition. The video artist directed his attention to the figures of Don Giovanni and the three women Donna Anna, Donna Elvira and Zerlina. In an intimate combination of acoustic and visual creativity, the composers and the video artist re-formulate the characters of the Don and his three women within the social and gender-specific tensions of the present. The nobleman Don Giovanni becomes the hotel pageboy Donny G.; Mozart becomes a source of inspiration for impressive contemporary music. »Donny G«. was developed in the course of a year at the Schloss Weikersheim Music Academy and realized during a three month joint working phase at the ZKM | Karlsruhe. The project directors were Dr. Ulrich Wüster (JMD) and Prof. Ludger Brümmer (ZKM | Institute for Music ).
