The ISCM World New Music Festival 2006 as guest in Karlsruhe
Concert with works by Markus Lindbert, Roderik de Man

The Dutch ensemble »Insomnio« will be the house ensemble for the Internationalen Gesellschaft für Neue Musik 2007 (International Society for New Music 2007). »Insomnio« performs at the most important festivals both at home and abroad and is at the same time festival organizer, among others, of the »Finland Festival 2005«. With its concert at the ZKM_Cube it is to be once again recommended for this demanding artistic task. At this concert day, the ZKM will be host to a large delegation of the »Internationale Gesellschaft für Neue Musik« (International Society for New Music). With a demonstration of the ZKM’s| Institute for Music and Acoustics technical and artistic possibilities, together with the use of the Klangdom, the unique environment for the production of spatial sound, the ZKM has once again proved itself to be one of the most innovative artistic places at an international level. To commemorate the death of György Ligeti’s, the artist’s electronic works will be performed in the Klangdom during the same concert.

ISCM World New Music Festival 2006
»grenzenlos« (borderless)

The »ISCM World New Music Festival« is the official festival of the Internationale Gesellschaft für Neue Musik (International Society for New Music). It is carried out in one of the fifty member countries (the last time in Germany, in 1995) and reflects the newest developments in contemporary music. The Stuttgart organizer »Musik der Jahrhunderte« (Music of the Centuries) presents the Festival 2006 as commissioned by the German Gesellschaft für Neue Musik (Society for New Music). The theme »grenzenlos« (borderless) evokes the questions but also the opportunities with which the young artists in the globalized world and across all continents are confronted. The focal point of the theme is the question as to the cultural identity and the possibility of its realization in artistic and musical contexts.

»Short Cuts: Beauty«. An International Competition of Electro-Acoustic music at the ZKM

With the international competition for electronic music »Short Cuts: Beauty«, the ZKM | Centre for Art and Media Karlsruhe is an important partner in the »World New Music Festival«. »Short Cuts: Beauty« is conceived to provide an insight into the manifold concepts of beauty in different cultures. The competition is directed towards musically creative people from all continents and regions who create music with the computer. All transmittals will be available during the festival at listening stations the ZKM | Karlsruhe and at the media centre of the festival at the Theaterhaus Stuttgart. A selection of particularly interesting and original pieces will be presented in the especially designed Late-Night-Lounge at the Kunstmuseum (Museum of Art) Stuttgart and on the WebRadio of the Deutschen Gesellschaft für elektroakustische Musik (German Society for Electro-Acoustic Music) (DEGEM).

The DEGEM WebRadio as Media Window to the ISCM World New Music Festival 2006

In cooperation with the ZKM, the DEGEM will operate the »DEGEM WebRadio«, which is dedicated to the broad field of electro-acoustic art. As an official partner at the »ISCM World New Music Festival 2006« the WebRadio will broadcast a special, comprehensive program in cooperation with the organizer of the festival. A special highpoint comprises an ongoing transmission of works of electro-acoustic art which can qualify for a competition issued by the DEGEM for the »ISCM World New Music Festival«. Alongside this, the ZKM will maintain its own broadcasting rubric with a special program on the competition »Short Cuts: Beauty«. In a modified form a second partner, the Deutsche Musikrat (German Music Council) will present its CD series and will be able to punctually celebrate a true jubilee at the beginning of the festival.
