In November 2005, ZKM was chosen from among approximately 200 participants as one of the nation’s most outstanding institutions by the jury for the federal initiative »Germany—Land of Ideas.« It is therefore part of Germany’s hitherto largest event series, »365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas.« As a »Landmark in the Land of Ideas,« ZKM will present itself with an »Art and Media Day,« highlighting the work of the research institutes.

Klangdom demonstration and concert
Works by Ludger Brümmer, Robert Normandeau and Robin Minard.
The newly built Klangdom at the ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustics is an instrument unique throughout the world, for spatializing music and sound. More than thirty loudspeakers hang three-dimensionally in the space on an elliptical rig system, with additional ones set up on the floor. This enables surround-sound listening that far outshines Dolby-Surround.
