÷ Light Art from Artificial Light :: Very few media have revolutionized and democratized our living space in the last hun-dred years as much as electrical light has. The most diverse areas of everyday life, of working life, consumption, media, etc., have transformed through artificial light - and so has art. Since the beginning of the last century, artificial light has increasingly illuminated ever more streets, shop windows, billboard signs and houses in an unprecedented abundance and form. The ZKM|Museum for Contemporary Art's spectacular exhibition offers the first presentation of the classical highlights of light art, and here, the most recent contemporary art reveals surprising references to earlier works. Artists [selected] László Moholy-Nagy, Thomas Wilfred, Zdenek Pesánek, ZERO, Gruppo T, Gruppo N, Dan Flavin, Bruce Nauman, Keith Sonnier, James Turrell, Mario Merz, François Morellet, Jenny Holzer, Cerith Wyn Evans, Jason Rhoades, Zaha Hadid, Tobias Rehberger, Steven Pippin, Olafur Eliasson [more]

[through 2007 | Media-Museum]

÷ The Algorithmic Revoluion and World of Games: reloaded :: Over the past 50 years, algorithmic decision-making processes have come very much to the fore as a result of the universal use of computers in all fields of cultural literacy - from architecture to music, from literature to the fine arts, and from transport to management. The exhibition draws on the ZKM_Collection and selected loans in presenting an historical outline of this radical change in the fine arts, music, design, and architecture [more]
[through 2007 | Media-Museum]

÷ Video/economy Distributions in Global Format :: In some cases video tapes are treated like oil paintings, although just like music their purpose is none other than distribution. How can the financial needs for artists be reconciled with distribution in the art market? Does the market dictate faith in the original or is there a lack of media distribution channels, such as an online offer, to make the video marketable as a reproducible expression of art outside the collector community? There are only a few distribution outlets worldwide that have taken up the task of hiring out or selling art videos and making a success of the job [more]
