Who Was Willoughby Sharp?
Willoughby Sharp made a name for himself as the publisher of the Avalanche magazine (1970–1976). In the late 1960s he was one of the first artists, along with Nam June Paik, to use Sony’s Portapack video system for his art, producing a series of Video Performances and Video Views with artists such as Acconci, Beuys, Burden, Nauman, Oppenheim and Sonnier.

In the 1960s, he curated a series of exhibitions such as Pop Art (Columbia University, 1964), Kineticism (The Official Olympic Games Exhibition, Museum of Art and Science, Mexico City, 1968) and Earth Art (White Museum, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, 1969).
