»Media Art Network Lectures: Mapping«
»Media Art Network«, a project that focuses on the communication and contextualisation of media art on the net, is published by Rudolf Frieling and Dieter Daniels [Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts] on behalf of the ZKM, the Goethe Institute and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. This is the first attempt ever made not just to compile essential data and documents relating to the media and the arts, but also to combine and contextualise them in a meaningful way. A lengthy initial section is devoted to an “Overview of Media Art“ [in cooperation with the Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts]. All the authors’ texts are also available in the book of the same name on the net project.

This overview provides the point of departure for the main work to be carried out on the content in the course of this year. The ZKM is focusing on the “mapping“ of data spaces and on alternative artistic strategies. »Media Art Net: Lectures« is designed to bring together philosophers, artists, academics and critics for a public discussion of new mapping models during this international conference at the ZKM. Among the participants will be Christine Buci-Glucksmann, Steve Dietz, Martin Dodge, Wolfgang Ernst, Graham Harwood, Stéphane Marchand-Maillet, Daniela Aline Plewe, Warren Sack, Brett Stalbaum and V2. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided in German and English of all the presentations, which will subsequently be processed, documented and made available at www.medienkunstnetz.de.
