Co-producing the Future through Support...
The Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Kunst und Medientechnologie e.V. [Incorporated Society for the Development of Art and Media], founded in 1988, is an association of citizens and public personalities. It supports − ideally and materially − ZKM, the Center for Art and Media and the Hochschule für Gestaltung [University of Arts and Design] in Karlsruhe. From this center, the impulses are sent forth which not only enrich the technology region of Karlsruhe, but also the entire state of Baden-Württemberg and the Republic of Germany. The significance of these impulses cannot be regarded highly enough since the center’s concept guarantees innovations, both in the arts and sciences as well as technology, economics, and industry. An essential characteristic of the concept is that future-oriented media and computer technology for the first time have been systematically connected with new developments in the field of art. This exchange between art and technology will continue to be fruitful to both the traditional arts and new art directions; it influences the way in which forms are produced in industry and craftsman industries and will productively bring together and productively expand the world of technology and art generally, in a variety of ways.
The Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Kunst und Medientechnologie [Incorporated Society for the Development of Art and Media] supports the objectives and tasks of the Center for Art and Media and the University of Arts and Design concretely in the following areas: presentation of ZKM’s tasks and objectives in the public; support of projects in the area of new media and new technology: video, computer graphics, music, and animation, among others; and support of
artists who work artistically with new media and technology
event organizing and support for exhibitions which present media art
support for the dialogue between artists from all over the world, who bring with them native arts and technology-oriented art directions
the acquisition of technological devices and hard- and software; also the renting of spaces
and promoting initiatives which bring the complex "art and media technology" into the education programs at schools and higher-learning
