Spatial conception in musical works (Der Traum vom Raum)

In its cooperation with hr2-kultur, ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustics announces a tender for new radiophonic or electro-acoustic works based on material from a radio play by the French composer Luc Ferrari. Information and Download can be found here.

Reality is augmented in Peter Weibel’s iPhone/iPad App 255M Dead, that is now available on the App Store. The viewer sees and hears a chronology of genocides, political murders and wars occurring so close to him, happening in his own space: His local world is part of the global world.

The Small Fish App is now available on the App Store! In 15 different graphic scores, the player can arrange multiple parts to influence the music immediately.

Apply now for Giga-Hertz Award! In 2007, the ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustics and the SWR EXPERIMENTALSTUDIO inaugurated the annual Giga-Hertz Award for electronic music. Deadline extended until May 31, 2011!

The Walter-Fink Award has been advertised internationally in 2009 for the first time. Electronic and electroacoustic music, new media and dance/body shall go into a symbiosis and bring together creature movements with advanced sound processing and performance techniques.

As part of its Visiting Artist Program, the IMA annually awards for this purpose several grants to composers and musicians / sound artists / music programmers. For more information, click here.


:: Festivals 2011

Quantensprünge XIII – Quantum Leaps XIII In autumn this bi-annual festival at the ZKM will be the final part of the program for scholarship holders of the International Ensemble Modern Academy Frankfurt and is a key component of the ZKM’s promotion of young talent. From September 29 to October 1, 2011, the IEMA will again be the guest of the ZKM and present not only landmark works of the twentieth century, but also and especially compositions by the members of the program.

IMATRONIC At the annual autumn festival for electronic music, which will take place this year from November 23 to 26, the current state of electronic music will be presented in concerts and discussed in a symposium. The focal points in 2011 are works for piano and electronic sounds, Iannis Xenakis, music and dance, the EXPERIMENTALSTUDIO of the SWR and, as highlight, the award ceremonies for two major honors of the ZKM, the Giga Hertz Prize and the Walter Fink Prize, with prize winners concerts.
