ASCII Art Ensemble
ASCII Art Ensemble is working and experimenting with moving ASCII (charset), ASCII Audio and ASCII video, ASCII being the acronym for 'American Standard Code for Information Interchange'. While ASCII was largely used in the 1960s for simple graphic representations, ASCII Art Ensemble uses the characters to represent content from timebased media (like video and audio). AAE's purpose is not alone the representation of pictures and ideas, but also the development of new applications for existing media. In the exhibition, a web cam captures live pictures which are turned into ASCII (text-) pictures in real time.
